BAROQUE CONCERT
Violin and Cello
1660 to 1750
“Anno di nostro Signore”
The “Baroque Concert” brings together some of the most representative compositions of classical music from the 17th and 18th centuries, a period marked by musical innovation, especially in harmony, form, and instrumentation. Key composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Friedrich Händel, Giovanni Battista Vitali, Antonio Vivaldi, and Jean-Marie Leclair defined the Baroque style, characterized by ornamentation, emotional dramatization, and the development of forms like the concerto and sonata. Bach, for example, combined contrapuntal complexity with emotional expression, while Vivaldi and Corelli profoundly influenced the string repertoire.
The concert program includes pieces that reflect the diversity of the Baroque, from Corelli’s “Sonata for Violin in E minor” to Händel’s “Sonata in F major” and the vibrant compositions of Vivaldi. The performance of these works by musicians Hiram Herrera (violin) and Guillermo Sánchez Romero (cello), who have extensive experience in national and international orchestras, provides an authentic experience of Baroque music.
This concert stands out not only for its artistic quality but also for its historical relevance, offering a window into the cultural richness of the Baroque, an era that profoundly influenced the development of classical music and whose compositions remain fundamental in the contemporary repertoire.
