Bandoneon and Guitar Duo
La Bandarra is a Mexican duo formed by Clara Stern (bandoneon) and César Lara (guitar), dedicated to promoting both traditional and contemporary tango. Founded in 2016 in Mexico City, the project delves into the emotional and aesthetic depth of tango through original arrangements and adaptations, highlighting the intimate dialogue between two of the genre’s most essential instruments.
With performances at prestigious festivals and venues in Mexico and the United States—including the Morelia International Guitar Festival, Festival Quimera, and the Latin American Guitar Festival in Chicago—La Bandarra has established a unique artistic voice within the Mexican music scene. Their music blends passion, nostalgia, and modernity, offering audiences a sonic experience that celebrates migration, identity, and the collective memory of tango.
Ecos de Migrantes – Program Concept
“Ecos de Migrantes” (Echoes of Migrants) is a musical proposal that explores tango as a reflection of journey, uprooting, and the search for belonging.
Through the dialogue between the bandoneon—a symbol of Rio de la Plata nostalgia—and the guitar, an essential instrument of Latin American popular tradition, La Bandarra creates a soundscape where memory, migration, and identity intertwine.
The program traces a path from classical to contemporary tango, evoking the emotions of those who, in migration, carry with them their music, history, and hope. Each piece becomes an echo of shared cultural journeys, reminding us that tango—like migrants themselves—was forged through the encounter and fusion of diverse worlds.
